Reader ReviewsJust reviewing the table of contents engulfs you in the incredible number of areas that computers have touched our lives. This is far more than a textbook. It is the written portion of a multi-media presentation that attempts to touch on every facet of computing today - from how a mouse works to the ethical dilemmas posed by databases. The publisher provides a CD-ROM for instructors and a web site for students with pointers to hundreds of useful sites. This is the "complete" version, intended as the primary text for a three-credit college-level course. The publisher also offers "brief" and "introductory" versions more appropriate to use as a supplement or in shorter courses. The information is very up-to-date, but just missed the dot-bomb implosion of the web world and still maintains the "web can and will do everything in your life" entheusiasm of that brief era. If you are buying this book, you have probably had it assigned as a text for a course and have no choice but to purchase it. You will be rewarded with a rich source of information on every facet of computer technology. It would also be an excellent basis for an intense self-study program if you are willing to set aside a couple of hundred hours to absorb it all!
