Book Description
In the real world, page layout projects don't come with directions and the "recipe book" approach of most
software books does little to prepare designers for the demands of a highly competitive industry. Exploring InDesign CS2 takes a different approach. With an emphasis on typography and critical thinking, the book transforms the novice into a professional typesetter- one who is grounded in industry-standard design principles. In addition to gaining professional proficiency while using the new features of Adobe InDesign CS2, users learn to begin a project while visualizing the end design, to identify the project pitfalls and challenges, and to independently strategize the best production sequence. Chapters and projects are carefully ordered to move readers from basic operations to creating complex documents using multiple master pages and paragraph and character styles, with each chapter building upon the skills presented in the previous chapter. As in industry, the emphasis throughout is on productivity, including preplanning and utilizing keyboard shortcuts.

Reader Reviews
I've been determined to learn InDesign for the longest time. I've came across books after books but just thought they were too confusing. I was finally introduced to this one by my professor. This one is so easy to read. The chapters are well put together in a nice appropriate order. I cant see how someone doesnt learn InDesign through this book! The author even manage to teaches typography! (which will explain why you even need to know about kerning and tracking, etc. option on top) They're are projects and test at the end of the chapters that ensure that you will learn. They're are these "try this" examples throughout the books. Basically its very hands-on and that's a good thing. To learn something you literally have to try it right? So if you do everythign like it said I cant see why you wont learn InDesign. But yeah I've sit in Barnes & Noble reading all the InDesign books they offer and went to libraries checking out different books there too and this is truly the best of them all! I am finally learning InDesign! I dont normally write a reviews but seriously I've been searching the world for something that would teach me InDesign and now its such a relief.
