Product Description
AJAX, Asynchronous JavaScript and XML took the development community by storm. When leveraged and utilized properly, along with a server-side Framework, such as ASP.NET, an incredibly rich and responsive user experience can be developed. AJAX and ASP.NET 3.5 are powering some of today's most popular and powerful Web 2.0 applications and is a required skill for developers in today's demanding market. ASP.NET 3.5 AJAX Pocket Guide provides a complete and comprehensive reference for the ASP.NET 3.5 AJAX Framework. You'd be amazed at what we've crammed into this small, useful reference that all developers, veteran and novice alike will find helpful, informative and a must have! If you're serious about ASP.NET AJAX development and require a reference covering not only the essentials but the advanced techniques, such as mashups, client proxies, web services, extenders and script controls then look no further than ASP.NET 3.5 AJAX Pocket Guide, the only guide you'll want!
Reader ReviewsIf I could give this book more than 5 stars I would. I have a handful of ASP .NET AJAX books of various types, most of them rather thick and wordy. I would toss them all if I needed to in order to have this particular one on my shelf. Why such a glowing review? There's no b.s. in this book. I had a need recently to create a Control Extender, something I hadn't done before. I flipped to the chapter in Ellis' book, read up on the core techniques, and got the job done. Simple. It clearly explains how everything works together, and the various ways you can get from point A to point B. I will say that if you have zero experience in ASP .NET AJAX (and maybe more importantly zero experience writing AJAX code by hand) you may want to look for a Dummies book or something a little more geared to the beginner. If you've built a page with a ScriptManager, UpdatePanel and had it function properly, let this book help you from there. If you're an experienced developer, I would wager you'll still find something in here that makes you go, "Cool." At just over 200+ pages, it's more like a Zagat's guide to ASP .NET AJAX than a voluminous text on random nuances, and that's exactly the niche my library needed filled.
