Reader Reviews
If you are looking to implement SSH without previous experience with it, this book is not going to get it done for you. If you are looking for a book that describes the differences between differnt implementations of SSH and a some nifty management and deployment options then this may be for you. You might condsider this book if you were deciding how to best deploy an SSH product in a large organization. To quote the author, ".... this book does not cover the ins and outs of SSH as a protocol...... Instead, it covers the ins and outs of implementing and optimizing SSH." Products covered include OpenSSH, OpenSSH(Win32), SSH from SSH Communications, VShell, Secure CRT, Putty, F-Secure, Mindterm, and WinSCP. The author has substantial knowledge of the different SSH products. The author describes some standard and not-so standard ways SSH can be used in an organization to get the job done. This book is pretty easy to read and the information is useful. On the downside, I would have liked to buy just one book for SSH. I use OpenSSH. Unfortunately this book didn't give me enough details to satisfy me. I need to know how something works before I deploy it. For OpenSSH, I recommend the SANS Press book on "OpenSSH" as a how to guide to fill the void. I give this book 3 stars.
