Book Description
This IDC study summarizes the results of IDC's 2004 comprehensive multiclient study entitled Server Platform Migration 2004: Identifying Shifts in Workload Deployment. This survey-based IDC study was designed to gain insights into organizations' attitudes toward server and storage migration and to identify key issues associated with migration. This document also looks at the drivers and inhibitors toward migration.
"Server migration projects are occurring at companies of all sizes, and they are largely driven by business requirements to optimize system performance and to improve availability," said Matthew Eastwood, IDC research director, Global Enterprise Server Solutions. "Through migration, organizations are able to streamline their IT environment, both in terms of hardware and manageability, to create a more flexible IT infrastructure that will allow them to respond to rapidly changing business needs."
