Book Description
This IDC study is the first attempt to address the SIC-to-NAICS conversion in the U.S. industry classification scheme and offer NAICS-based projections for server spending by NAICS supersector for 2002-2007. In this document, we compare the forecast and segmentation scenarios for the industry distribution of server spending in the United States under the two industry coding systems and illustrate the impact of the industry reclassification on the vertical distribution of server revenue by three price bands.
According to Anna Toncheva, IDC program manager,' Systems Vertical Views: "IT vendors should be aware of the impact that the reclassification of the industries will have on the tracking of IT spending by vertical and interpret the forecast and segmentation results with a clear understanding of the real causes for any reallocation of spending. The migration of server spending across industries under NAICS is more closely correlated to the relative IT intensities of the various industry sectors than to pure employment shifts."
