Book Description
This IDC study discusses voice application servers' important role in emerging hosted VoIP services and increasingly in residential services as well. Bellwether start-up vendors, such as Sylantro, VocalData, BroadSoft, and LongBoard, have, to a large extent, led and defined this market. Early deployments of hosted VoIP services, such as the HIPCS services offered by SBC Communications have shown the viability and flexibility of such products, and IDC expects this market equipment segment to grow significantly over the next several years. Although large telecom suppliers also have viable and increasingly sophisticated offerings in this space, this study focuses more specifically on updating start-up vendor activity in this space with a special emphasis on these four vendors.
"IDC believes that these new products are very disruptive in nature because they have the capability to alter traditional paths to market and also open the door to a variety of non-traditional telecom players," noted Tom Valovic, IDC's program director for IP Telephony.
