Book Description
Central and local government modernization will rely on complex hardware infrastructure. Servers and disk storage systems will be critical components of this infrastructure.
This study outlines IDC survey results on the key characteristics of current server and storage infrastructure in Western European governments and also the investment plans on storage capacity and technology. The survey highlights that the storage capacity is expected to increase in most cases and there will be a shift from direct attached storage towards NAS and SAN.
"IT solutions for management of structured and unstructured digital information such as databases and document management systems will be critical to support the growth of egovernment and the implementation of other modern IT solutions in the government sector. To support those solutions, greater storage capacity is required. To comply with higher demand of storage capacity and need to ensure redundancy of access to information in a networked environment, both central and local government agencies will invest more in network-attached storage (NAS) and especially storage area network (SAN)," said Massimiliano Claps, senior research analyst, IDC European Vertical Markets.
