Book Description
The establishment of patient-centric healthcare processes will rely also on modern IT solutions. The critical supporting hardware infrastructure will encompass servers and disk storage systems.
IDC survey results outline the key characteristics of current server and storage infrastructure in Western European healthcare agencies and also the investment plans for storage capacity and technology. The survey highlights that storage capacity is expected to increase in most cases and there will be a shift from direct attached storage towards NAS and SAN.
"IT solutions for management of structured and unstructured digital information, in particular of electronic patient records, will be critical to support more responsive healthcare services. Healthcare providers will meet the need to comply with higher demands of storage capacity and ensure redundancy of access by investing more in network-attached storage (NAS) and storage area network (SAN)," said Massimiliano Claps, senior research analyst, IDC European Vertical Markets.
