Book Description
This IDC study continues market reporting based on our new server taxonomy that redefines the server marketplace into new server classes based on new price-band definitions. Specifically, this document analyzes the high-end enterprise server size class, which includes systems priced $500,000 or more.
"There was a marked increase in customer spending for high-end enterprise systems at the end of 2003 and into the first and second quarters of 2004," said Steve Josselyn, research director for IDC's Global Enterprise Server Solutions. "Much of this spending was in the OS/390 market segment, as IBM began shipping its greater n-way configuration late in the year. We believe this is evidence that if customers can see continued investment from the suppliers to provide additional functionality and platform enhancement, then those customers will remain committed to the OS/390 platform over the long term."
