Book Description
The IDC
software Market Forecaster (SMF) is the
software industry's most flexible tool for market segmentation. It provides a comprehensive view of the global
software market in an easy-to-use electronic pivot table format that allows users to manipulate the data in useful ways tailored to your needs. The data in this pivot table provides 2001-2003 vendor shares for more than sixty companies in the Integration Server
software Platforms
software market. The SMF pivot table can be used to segment market revenue by four geographic regions and nine operating environments. A distinctive feature of the SMF is that one can view a company's revenue across
software markets. The pivot table format offers the flexibility to "slice and dice" the
software revenue beyond what is published in IDC's written analysis.
This SMF pivot table does not include market forecasts. However, this data is included in the companion SMF pivot table PT500.
The
software Market Forecaster pivot tables are add-on products that complement IDC's Continuous Intelligence Services (CISs). Updates to the five year market forecasts will be released again in September and in December.
Some key questions that the
software Market Forecaster product subscriptions help answer include the following:
- I need to understand where my competitors are gaining or losing share in specific software markets.
- I need to analyze a company and determine where they are earning software revenue across the entire industry and analyze how they have been gaining and losing share in particular software markets. (Note that the SMF pivot tables permit viewing all of IDC's software vendor models across all of the markets we follow. This holistic vendor view is not available from any of our Continuous Intelligence Services.)
- I need to identify leading companies in specific software markets that might be candidates for an acquisition, partnership, or alliance. (Note that the SMF tracks approximately 800 private companies and over 300 public companies.)
- I need to analyze aggregate trends in the software industry and changes in vendor shares.
- I need to analyze and evaluate market size, market forecasts, and key market players to develop a successful business plan and reduce my time to market.
- I need a product that can assist me setting my sales quotas.
The packaged
software revenue information provided in the SMF is organized by the same 2004 IDC
software Taxonomy that is a mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive means of classifying packaged
software revenue. This product allows users to choose the
software markets that are appropriate to your needs. More information regarding the SMF is available at www.idc.com/software/forecaster, where the SMF may be purchased at the worldwide, primary, secondary, or individual market level.
Additional information about the SMF includes the following:
- The data in this SMF pivot table was extracted from the software Market Forecaster database as of 05/28/04.
- The contract for this product is good for one full year from the time of purchase. During the course of the year, five year annual forecasts are provided four times (generally in March, June, September, and December). Historical data including vendor shares are provided annually in Q2.
- The data from the IDC SMF is for a client organization's internal use only. Extraction and combination of pivot table data fields can produce results at finer levels of granularity or in other ways not verified and validated by IDC analysts. This type of analysis can be very valuable to SMF clients and is a primary benefit derived from the SMF products. However, in general, IDC will not approve external use of the data resulting from this type of analysis although requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Under all circumstances written permission from IDC is needed for external use of any data from the SMF.
