Book Description
Hacking the Cube is a straightforward and sometimes comical look into the everyday world of information technology. It answers questions that many IT professionals and newcomers ask about the tools and skills needed to survive one of the most complex career fields in the world. Most computer books deal with configuring software and do little to help you learn what you need to know to work in a network office environment. Most people are rarely prepared for the social, political, or psychological aptitude needed to survive the office workplace. Most computer books are software proprietary and never tell you what types of programs you will really need to know.

Many of the topics in this book are situations based on my experience and the experiences of other computer professionals that you would not typically have access to without actually having a job in an IT department. It also contains notes sent to me from well-established IT professionals about their experiences. This book is a mix of fact and story, humor and frustration. So, if you are new to the field of computers, Hacking the IT Cube is going to give you a unique insight that only experience can teach. On the other hand, if you are a seasoned veteran, you will laugh and cry at familiar situations that have sent you to a place of liquid intoxication.

About The Author

Reader Reviews
I don't make a habit of bashing the sincere literary efforts of the independent author, but this compendium of blogger nonsense is not literature, shows no effort except in avoiding depth and substance, and sincerely lacks any redemptive measure of humor. After reading as much of the unorganized swill that I could stomach, I wondered how any reasonable publisher could lend their name to such a document. Then I noticed this statement on the back cover, "This book has answers to questions by a working computer professional, not a staff writer from a book publisher." Putting aside the poor sentence structure (which is a permanent requirement with this book), I realized no publisher of any kind actually published it. The author's own website is the publishing company. If you don't normally find this lack of branding meaningful, consider this a very large, very bright, very red flag. There is exactly one page devoted to the role of an IT manager and one additional page devoted to office politics. Call me crazy but as an IT professional myself, these topics scream for chapter upon chapter of hilarious anecdotes and insights. Instead you get fantastic commentary like, "Computer politics is the most difficult thing to learn for new computer people because most computer people see things as black or white and do not understand that sometimes things are gray." In other words don't waste your time Hacking the IT Cube, otherwise you will end up like me, writing a review bashing the poor IT rube.
