Reader Reviews
Five Weeks is a concise and gorgeous example of book design working hand in hand with thoughtful lucid poetry. It was very nice to see the way the author applied both traditional poetry forms and contemporary experiments to create a series of vibrant moments. The thematic division of the haiku into chapter based "weeks" also gave a wonderful flow to the volume. Both the length of the book and the space present in the visual layout thoroughly enhanced the grounded and open feel of the words, allowing a great amount of room for the reader to form their own impressions and associations with the material. In addition, it was a pleasant surprise to find a whole chapter of haibun (an evocative but relatively uncommon poetic form). Unlike some books, the use of structure in Five Weeks was not the least bit daunting, and as a result it should be accessible and engaging for all readers. It is great to see that haiku and haibun are alive and well in the world. I would definitely recommend this book for a tranquil evening read.
