Book Description
This book is devoted to the plasticity of the brainits ability to store and respond to new information, which is the basis for learning and adaptive changes in behavior. Experimentally induced changes in brain structure and function, as expressed by changes in brain structure and function, as expressed by changes in connectivity, and synapses are described. Molecular mechanisms that may underlie these changes are discussed, and the role of these changes in conditioned reflex behavior, in recovery of function after brain damage, and in the abnormal function of epiliptic foci is examined. Abundant society data, virtually unobtainable elsewhere, is combined with data from non-Soviet laboratories to produce a valuable synthesis of current thinking on this basic brain function.
