Book Description
This is a practical guidebook for African-American churches to help black families win the spiritual warfare being waged in their lives.
Back Cover Copy
Black churches and their leaders are at the front line of a war for the lives of people bound by fear, anger, and idolatry. Sociologists, politicians, and economists all have failed to solve the complex problems of African-American families. But victory is available -- and believers hold the key. In Breaking the Strongholds in the African-American Family, Dr. Clarence Walker unfolds a plan for spiritual warfare using the weapons of God. Drawing from biblical characters such as Nimrod, Jezebel, and Tamar, Dr. Walker describes the various types of strongholds that imprison black men, women, and children today. He matches the weapons and strategies of ancient warfare with our spiritual weapons, providing a vital and practical ministry resource for pastors, counselors, and laypeople. Step by step, Breaking Strongholds in the African-American Family shows: - how to identify types of strongholds - how to know and use our weapons of warfare - how to train an army of warriors to work as a team - how to set up an effective battle plan. "It is up to us to initiate battle," says Dr. Walker, "and therefore we must advance and move toward our target with faith and confidence, remembering that the battle ultimately is not our battle -- it is the Lord's."
Reader Reviews
Although Dr. Walker touches on some of the problems that exists in the African-American family and the generational curses and mind sets of African-Americans, I believe that everyone can and will benefit by reading this book. His analogy of the stronghold and how it must be dismantled is superb. In part 2 as Dr. Walker describes the Christian's arsenal and the battle plan for the Church it is very evident that if we (the church) will do battle this way, we WILL have victory over the enemy of our soul and our fanilies. As Dr. Walker explains the "battering ram" and how we must use it to make a "breach" or hole in the wall of the stronghold to enable us to bring it down as we also use "the crow" to topple the stronghold it makes perfectly clear what our prayers do as we labor in spiritual warfare. There is no doubt in my mind that the Church that follows these principles in prayer WILL be victorious. But, the question is, "Are we (the church) willing to pay the price?" I see many reading the book and agreeing that this IS what the Church needs to do, but few that will truly, "step up to the plate" and take on the spiritual battle.
