Book Description
The book: "Sands of Time" The History of BEACH VOLLEYBALL, Volume #1: 1895-1969 is the first book that has been devoted primarily to the history of BEACH VOLLEYBALL! There are 272 pages of beach volleyball stories and anecdotes, along with tournament results. The book includes nearly 500 photographs of the events, venues and players of BEACH VOLLEYBALL.
In the first chapter, pages 1-28, cover the first 50 years of volleyball. Most of this information relates to the indoor game. The indoor game was the "motivation" for the game of "BEACH VOLLEYBALL." In order to document the history of BEACH VOLLEYBALL, it was important to illustrate its original "roots."
The remaining 244 pages cover BEACH VOLLEYBALL, beginning with the second chapter, revealing the "Birth" of BEACH VOLLEYBALL and illustrating how the indoor game contributed to the "conception" of the beach game.
You are then guided up to and through beach volleyball's "Golden" years" of the 1950's in the third chapter. The fourth chapter covers the 1960's, referred to as the "Adolescent" years of BEACH VOLLEYBALL.
Some of the most amazing beach volleyball stories and events are described along with the nearly 500 PHOTOGRAPHS of the people and events involved.
About The Author
Arthur "Artie" Couvillon is a retired Firefighter that has published over twenty books relating to the Fire Service. Aside from the Fire Service,"Arties" greatest interest has been his involvement with the sport of beach volleyball, which began in the early 1960"s. Throughout this period of time, he has accumulated pertinent information, facts, records, stories, anecdotes, and photographs, relating to the sport of beach volleyball.
Since retiring from the Fire Service, "Artie" has been focusing on the history of beach volleyball. He has utilized all of his resources along with assistance from the fans, players, legends, photographers and followers of beach volleyball, to produce the "Sands of Time" The History Of Beach Volleyball.
During his research, "Artie" has accumulated so much information along with an awesome collection of photographs, that he has also produced the "Winners" series. The "Winners" series highlights various players, both men and women. The series includes pertinent information about each "Winner" and covers each of the "Winners" career championship victories, along with numerous photographs of the "Winner" as well as other players of the same era.
Reader Reviews
This review is from: Sands of Time: The History of Beach Volleyball, Vol. 3: 1990-2004 (Paperback)
In terms of one-of-a-kind photos, this book has it all. I still can't figure out how this guy got his hands on some of these pictures, but I'm glad he did. The only thing that I thought was lacking was any sort of imaginative text, but I guess the series is intended to be more of a beach volleyball "almanac" than the latest John Irving masterpiece. I grew up playing beach volleyball in the 70's, 80's and 90's in Santa Monica and had the pleasure of being annihilated by some of the main characters (Stoklos, Menges, Lee, Gage, etc.). As a player or even just an afficionado, "The History of Beach Volleyball" (any volume) is a must!
