    From Publishers Weekly
Robbins's previous books (Giant Steps, etc.), along with his Personal Power audiotape series and seminars, have kept him at the forefront of the personal improvement industry for the past decade. Here, Robbins, who is white, adapts his book Unlimited Power (1984) for African Americans, who have mostly ignored his work. Although Robbins's name appears on this volume, the voice on nearly every page is that of his colleague, McClendon, head trainer of Robbins Research International, Inc., who is black and the owner of his own company, Succeleration Research Group. In a relentlessly positive and encouraging tone, he uses his own personal experiences and many examples of famous African Americans to explain Robbins's theories. Behavior modification exercises for achieving personal, career and financial success are included as well. The information here is universally appealing and applicable, but people of color accustomed to receiving information that is supposedly meant for everyone, and yet is presented only by whites using only whites as examples, will find this book a refreshing change. According to Robbins's own theory, however, readers will have to be "visual strategists" to make it through this lengthy volume; audiotapes and seminars-for those who are more "auditory" or "kinesthetic"-are sure to follow. 75,000 first printing.

    From Library Journal
Robbins has lent his highly recognizable name to his friend and associate McClendon for this adaptation of seminal self-help work (Unlimited Power, LJ 8/86), meant to encourage African Americans to overcome societal roadblocks to a life of their dreams. In his own right, McClendon is founder and president of the Succeleration Research Group, which teaches people how to get the most out of themselves and break through the barriers of fear, procrastination, and indecision. Black readers are told they "can change [their] pictures of negativity to images of success" through the author's neurolinguistic programming (NLP). The new subtitle makes good marketing sense, and McClendon tries to tailor the messages and situations to the community's unique challenges. But the basic concepts are familiar to Robbins fans. Sure to be popular, this is recommended to public libraries.?Corinne Nelson, "Library Journal"

    Reader Reviews
This review is from: Unlimited Power: A Black Choice (Hardcover) Unlimited power is a milestone in black personal achievement. It tells the reader how to take control of your mind, body and emotions to get what you want and become a force for good. What I like about it the most and what sets it apart from other black self help books out there is its based on science. NLP is the science of modeling excellence in people wherever you see it whether its in self made millionaires or someone who just knows how to be healthy or you could even use the technology to learn algebra or calculus it doesn't matter. I've used it myself to learn computers now I'm using it to learn how to make more money. The book has Anthony Robbins name on it but it's Joseph's voice through the whole book except for the intro. I think it is essential reading for any black man or woman that wants to become a success in this white dominated society. This book does show you the skills of persuading yourself and other people to do what you want them to do. The book's goal to give black people access to "unlimited power" I think definitely this book should be read by all african americans because it got me to make decisons about what I wanted and got me to take action. I also learned to actually control my emotional states of mind. There are some deep things in this book about the lies of success that didn't make sense to me initially but they do now. I can sum this book up like this : If black people are to succeed they must change three things: 1. We must raise our standards. 2. We must change our beliefs. 3. We must change our strategies . This book if taken to heart is a golden opportunity to do all that. Comment | | (Report this)
