Grade 2-4-In these titles, the main topics for each full-page spread are presented as newspaper headlines, e.g., "Americans Elect George Washington As First President," "Whiskey Rebellion Put Down by President Washington," "Samuel Adams Speaks Out Against Tea Act," and "Chests of Tea Dumped Into Boston Harbor." A few brief paragraphs describe the event. One illustration accompanies each spread; many are reproductions from old paintings, prints, and newspapers and are printed on parchment-colored background. Large type and an open format contribute to making these books quick and easy reading for those beginning to learn about American history. They would be supplemental to first-purchase titles with interesting narratives and original illustrations such as David A. Adler's A Picture Book of George Washington (1989) and Steven Kroll's The Boston Tea Party (1998, both Holiday). Reader Reviews
This review is from: The Boston Tea Party: Angry Colonists Dump British Tea (Headlines from History) (Library Binding)
All of the Headlines From History books are great. We are a homeschool family, and we used this book to supplement our history lesson. The content is accurate, unbiased, and suitable for elementary students. There is even a glossary at the end of the book. The only catch- price! But if you are passionate about your student's education, it may be well worth it- especially if you have other children to which you can pass it on. Remember- donate books like these to your local library when you don't want them anymore (and write it off come tax time). If your library is like mine, books like these are almost nonexistent. HOMESCHOOLERS: READ MY OTHER REVIEWS!
