From AudioFile
The title reflects talk show host Glenn Beck's identification with people in "the real America," rather than in Hollywood or Washington. He talks in the style of a morning radio disc jockey--which he once was--complete with impressions and vocal tricks. His conservative message of personal responsibility offers heartfelt commentary on his own life. In one memorable passage, he talks about warning his kids about drugs and alcohol from the viewpoint of a former user. Many of his bits mock liberal causes, including a few easy jabs at outspoken Hollywood liberals, such as Susan Sarandon, but he also takes shots at partisan politics in general. Conservatives will enjoy his entertaining audiobook, and even those who disagree with Beck may enjoy a few pieces. J.A.S. © AudioFile 2004, Portland, Maine-- Copyright © AudioFile, Portland, Maine

Product Description
There are some things people think but don't say.
"Political correctness is the classic Great Idea Gone Wrong. All it's done is shut us up. It hasn't changed anybody's mind. It hasn't changed our hearts. It's changed our faces. It's taken every opinion we have, it's taken every joke we have, and it's forced us to conceal it and hide it and bury it. It's made us superficial."
"Terrorism isn't caused by poverty, poverty is caused by terrorism. Terror is a tool used by those seeking power to keep the masses in need of an answer."
"Too many people blame everything on everybody else, and because they do, they will expect too little from themselves and too little from their children."
Glenn Beck says all that, and more.
As one of the most listened to nationally syndicated radio talk-show hosts and the driving force behind the Rallies for America, Glenn Beck entertains, inspires, and informs millions of listeners. In The Real America, Beck continues to tell it like it really is, cutting through the fog of modern-day pundits and pontificators who have made it their mission to undermine and underestimate the greatness of America, our strength as Americans, and the power of the American spirit.
With his inimitable combination of self-effacing humor and heartfelt conviction, Glenn rails against many of the forces that keep us from our potential as a nation and as individuals -- and tells how to overcome them. His topics include:
- Family and community
- Politics
- Personal responsibility
- Race relations
- Religion
- Political correctness, the media, Hollywood, and celebrities
- Abortion and the deat
- penalty
- Alcohol and drugs
- Why I wave the flag
Glenn Beck's compelling message in The Real America echoes the ideas he has delivered to thousands of people with his groundbreaking Rallies for America: Once we connect with our power individually, we can empower others -- and then we can be as great and as grand as we have always wanted to be as a person, as a people, and as a nation.
Reader Reviews
This review is from: The Real America: Messages From The Heart and Heartland (Hardcover)
If you read all of the positive reviews of the book, you will see how people agree with the points of view expressed here and find themselves inspried by Beck. The negitive reviews however are just bashing Beck as an offspring of Limbaugh, political rhetoric gone wrong. Sort of the same meantily of Election 2004, voting for Kerry because he is not Bush. People claim that this should never have been published. Ironic that it's the same people who rally behind the ACLU and demand Freedom of Speech. The fact is is that the reviews of this book prove one of Becks points. I dont believe, and neither does he, that liberals are evil. Liberal and conservatives just have a different sense of policy, not principle (to quote from his show). Beck longs for the ideal, utopian America. An America where people are accountable for their actions. An America where no matter what your political affiliation, you are still an American with just a different point of view, indulging in your right to have that point of view. And who can argue with that America. A little too idealistic, possibly. But could it hurt to try. In this book, if you read between the lines, you will find that if there is anyone it is meant to offend, it is those who oppose the values of responsibility, accountability, and logic. This might give some insight in to the mean spirited reviews. Liberal or conservative - doesnt matter. This is worth taking a look... but only with an open mind. For if you enter this read with a narrowminded view of the world, you are going to end up like the miserable people who gave this book 1 star crying about a right wing conspiracy. If you dont like what this book has to offer, throw it away. If you do find it useful, it's just one more tool in your tool box of life. And whats wrong with that? In the Real America... nothing.
