Book Description
This is the only book describing the thirty year struggle to gain Wilderness protection for the Grand Canyon. It describes how the Colorado River became the sticking point and the tug-of-war between rafting outfitters and wilderness advocates - with the National Park Service trying to referee. Told from the point of view of the wilderness advocates, it is a source book of information showing how the current situation came to be and what small triumphs have been achieved along the way.
About The Author
Jeff Ingram was the first Southwest Representative for the Sierra Club. He and his fellow environmentalists succeeded in preventing dams in the Grand Canyon and in enlarging the Grand Canyon to more evely fit its geological scope but have not yet achieved Wilderness status for this icon National Park. He wrote the book to encourage the current environmentalists, to show what was achieved and to provide a history so that, just maybe, the same ground will not keep being covered and little progress made.
