Book Description
The Seattle Seahawks are one of football's youngest franchises. But though their history is brief, it is peppered with many memorable stories.
The Seahawks have been on strike, have been moved to California, and have played host to some of the best and worst players in the NFL. From the longest playoff drought of any NFL franchise to their first trip to the Super Bowl at the end of the 2005 season, from Steve Largent to Brian Bosworth, and from Jack Patera to Mike Holmgren, the Seattle Seahawks have always been a mix of good, bad, and ugly.
Their stories are collected here in a volume that Seahawks fans everywhere will be sure to enjoy.
Publisher Description
"I was mesmerized as I read stories I had long forgotten. I found myself laughing and crying as [Chris Cluff] told many stories that I actually had a part in." --from the foreword by Steve Largent
"You look at the first-round draft picks we used on quarterbacks during that stretch there, and it's a shame. Dave Krieg played seven more years, and he left because Ken Behring didn't like that Dave held the NFL record for fumbles." --Joe Nash on the three first-round draft picks the Seahawks squandered on sub-par quarterbacks
"Toward the end of the season I was drained, mentally and physically, because of what I'd been through and what I was getting ready to go through." --Brian Blades on playing football right before standing trial for manslaughter in the shooting death of his cousin
Reader Reviews
As a Seahawks fan and a transplant to the Seattle area, I was not completely familiar with the history of the team. I did know that they were started in the mid to late 70s (my NFL bedspread from my childhood did not include them or Tampa Bay) and that they have changed conferences. With that, I was interested to see what the history included. Some names and events I am familiar with. No Seahawks fan can think of the team without thinking of Steve Largent (or provides a foreword for the book). Dave Krieg is mentioned a lot, but Hasselbeck is mentioned much less, which is to be expected given the short history. With time, a future edition will have more of Hasselbeck. Little is said of Jon Kitna or Jim Zorn. This leads to a problem. Given the short history, the book is organized not in chronological order, but grouped into categories that had a lot of repetition. I read about the hit to Largent and his payback in more than one spot. In another section, I read about how Shaun Alexander missed a quarter of a game due to the birth of his daughter. The problem was that I read about this four different times within three pages. This was distracting. Seahawks fans will want to read this just to learn a little more about the team and to reminisce about some of the high and low points.
