The educational and political journey of many African Americans in this county began at Elbert Colored High School. African Americans in Elbert County helped shape their community and their country through sheer determination and faith, in the face of Slavery and laws biased against them.
About The Author
Author Aurolyn Melba Hamm was born and grew up in Elbert County. While collecting data on her family tree, she became interested in the local history; to her dismay, there was surprisingly little information readily available on local African Americans. This work is her effort to chronicle the history of 20th-century African Americans in Elbert County.
