    Reader Reviews
For history buffs, political science buffs, sociology buffs, students of grass-roots politics, and anyone wanting to understand WHO they are really voting for when they pull the lever or punch those holes in the voting booth, WHO RUNS GEORGIA is a fascinating addition to one's library. It is both the story of politics today, and politics in post-WWII Georgia, when two, or was it three, men claimed to be Governor all at the same time. In 1947 the authors were hired to find out how this could happen. After hundreds of interviews from across the state, they summarized their findings and printed 64 interviews. The report lay unpublished in the Archives of a major university for almost 50 years. Now it's been released, updated, and with an introduction by a noted political historian. The authors are still alive, one a retired journalist, the other a former US Congressman from Georgia. Some of the names in this book will be familiar to you, but many will not. Yet it's not the names that are important, it's the facts, the mores of the times (then and now), the ONE and the many answers to "Who Runs Georgia?" Want to find out about politics in the South before the Civil Rights Movement caught hold? Read this book! Wonder how much has changed since 1946? Read this book. Want to know the political backdrop of President Jimmy Carter? Read this book. Want to know why America is in trouble? Read not only "Who Runs Georgia?" but also, "Taking the Risk Out of Democracy," by Alex Cary. Your cherished notions about American history, and American politics, will either be reinforced or seriously challenged. John Allen, "Hotlanta," GA Comment | | (Report this)
