Book Description
The only book on the history and actions of the cadets who went to this long forgotten military school, Georgia Military Institute. It was burned to the ground by Sherman's Union forces before they made their March to the Sea. The young cadets from the school served the Confederacy well during their war for independence. The book has pictures, maps and letters from the cadets.
About The Author
Gary Livingston, former radio stations owner, has combined a lifelong interest in history into a writing career from his home in North Carolina. He also wrote Civil War non-fiction books: Fields of Gray, The Battle of Griswoldville; Among The Best Men The South Could Boast, The Fall of Fort McAllister. Also his latest book is a non-fiction account on the Iraqi War, An Nasiriyah, The Fight for the Bridges.
Reader Reviews
Gary does an excellent job detailing the establishment of the school, the life of cadets on campus and their participation in the Civil War. He has an incredible amount of information on many of the cadets, their attendance at GMI and courageous actions during military action. Cradle of Glory truly brings to life young men who grew from "seed corn" to soldiers fighting for the southern cause. The book includes photos and detailed rosters of each year of the school and Caper's Battalion. If you love reading about the Civil War and GMI, you'll love this book. Great, Great Book.
