Reader Reviews
I'm in the early process of building a 96 inch span R/C model of the 156 from Elite plans by Dennis Bryant , the British scale modeler . I had done a search to see what was out "there" in the way of documentation for the 156 and soon found that Nowarra's book was about "it" . The British "Profile" series did cover the 156 long ago and I have seen a copy but found it to be disappointing ."THE BOOK" that is the benchmark for the 156 , so I've read , is titled "Der Fieseler Fi 156" .... I gave Nowarra's brief book five "stars" as it is excellent for what it was intended . The "value" per dollar to me , at least , is high . It did reveal a few reproducible details that could only be guessed at in very "fuzzy" photos prior to this book , such as the slat on the bottom of the elevator at it's leading edge . From what I am told this would serve as an elevator control "boost" at high AOA approaches . There is enough info in the photos to be able to "scale" it out . To me , certainly not to everyone , the one photo that was worth the price of the book was the shot of the instrument panel and some interior cabin structure details . There are three 3-views . There is a 3-view of a 156 modified for boundary layer experiments , didn't know about that before . While certainly not of great detail these 3-views are accurate nevertheless and could be used to develop plans for a much larger model if one were so inclined . There are some fuselage and wing structural drawings , cabin window arrangement variations , some stab trim control, elevator linkage drawings . Much depends on why you would buy this book in the first place . What did you intend to do with it ? Many would just look at the photos and be happy while others were looking for more details . I'm looking for the details like , where does the fuselage "lacing" start and stop , where are all the wing inspection panels located This book helps but is not the end in itself . A few of the photos are not of the highest quality but over all and all considered where are you going to go to find better ? I've now got access to a real flyable 156 , so if I need more info I have a source but for those who don't , buy this book !
