Reader Reviews
I already own Hardy's "Plane Truth" book and corresponding video, so I am well versed in his theory. That said I can't say this is really more technically challenging than those other works. Consider it pretty much more of the same with some added drills at the end and embellishments along the way. The only technical difference i can see is a greater emphasis on the role of the arms in the downswing. The most notable of the embellishments was an awesome in-depth analysis of Ben Hogan's swing evolution and Hardy's own educated guess of what Hogan's "secret" was. Even though there is a fair amount of redundancy I'd still highly recommend this book even if you have Hardy's other materials. It's always a good idea to keep reinforcing the swing principles and try out new drills. And you never know when that you'll pickup that one key phrase, drill or tip that really makes it all click for you. Conversely, I see no reason why you can't start with this one if you don't have any of Hardy's other materials (i.e. don't let the title fool you.) The "big" question for followers of Hardy is are you a "one-planer or two-planer." In other words do you have a flattish body driven swing like Hogan or an upright smooth active arms swing like Watson? For me I find that the one-plane backswing is very difficult to get right, but when you do the downswing is simple and powerful. Conversely, the two-plane backswing is very easy to perform yet the downswing requires a lot of timing. Given the choices I went with the one-plane swing because at least the more challenging aspect is the slower part of the swing. I also don't want to be cluttered with swing thoughts during my downswing when like Hardy student Tom Pernice says "I'm just trying to bust it."
