Book Description
Hockey aficionados love the thrill of the slap shot--but don't forgot those pads. For the first time, here is detailed advice on everything from buying a helmet to sneaking out of the house for midnight ice time.
About The Author
Scott Noble has written dozens of articles on hockey gear and game-play. As manager of a busy hockey pro shop, Noble gained keen insight into the world of adult recreational hockey. In addition, he has also coached hockey and consulted with major equipment makers. Noble began playing hockey at the ripe age of thirty-four at his wife's suggestion. Since that moment, he's become hopelessly addicted to the sport.
Reader Reviews
I've written a couple of 1-star product reviews, so it's about time I had something good to say. (See, I actually was paying attention, Mom!) This book contains a load of beginner-oriented advice on equipment buying. Unfortunately, I learned a few of the lessons the hard way when I started playing a few years ago. There is also plenty of info relevant to the more experienced player, such as which portions of a skate boot can be custom fit and how it is done. I didn't know that helmets had expiration dates, did you? It makes perfect sense; all my safety equipment at work has one, so why not a hockey helmet? It's just something I never thought about. Everything is presented with an incredible sense of humor, making it a quick and easy read. The various "why not to buy used equipment" parts are particularly amusing (to me). I also like the handy tip about using the face mask as a bottle opener. If you are just thinking about playing hockey or if you are in the market for some new equipment, this is well worth the $10. I wish I had read this before I purchased my first stuff a few years ago.
