This is a very solid survey of the histories of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania from the earliest migrations to the present day. Since few students today can locate these countries, much less remember how important they were in the years 1989-1991, it is highly appropriate that a readable yet sophisticated survey appear a little over a decade later, now that these newly independent states have passed through the postcommunism crises to achieve economic, social, and political stability.The nonviolent revolution in the Baltics is one of the more remarkable events of our time and makes this book relevant to a wider public.
