Southern Idaho Ghost Towns is a very well-written book that should appeal to all kinds of people: Treasure hunters, historians, weekend adventurers. Anyone planning an expedition to the old mining camps of southern Idaho would do well to carry this book along as a guide.

Here is an great guide to eighty-four of Idaho's most interesting ghost towns. Along with the history of each town, Sparling gives the current state of the preservation. Both armchair travelers and wilderness explorers will be delighted with the treasures to be found.

Wayne Sparling has put together an excellent ghost town book for southern Idaho (south of the Salmon River). Most of these towns, of course, were mining camps, and most of them probably still offer the visitor something man-made to look at (though disappearing fast). Towns are arranged by sections, with a map at the beginning of each section. (The maps are the only disappointing thing about the book: they aren't very detailed.) The book is packed with photos - just about every site has at least one photo. I finally picked up the latest edition; my earlier one completely fell apart from use. Hopefully it's updated again soon.
