Product Description
Global Civilization emerged from a series of conversations between two peace advocates of Japanese and Iranian origin. It covers the encounters between Buddhist and Islamic civilizations from the 7th century to the present. The topics discussed in this spirit of dialogue include such diverse subjects as the nature of religious faith today, global ideological terrorism, religious fanaticism, and universal human rights. Ikeda and Tehranian, two important representatives of their respective faiths, propose dialogue as the most effective method of conflict resolution at interpersonal, intra-national, and international levels.

Reader Reviews
I recently read this book and couldnt put it down. Tehranian is a professor at University of Hawaii and is also the director of Toda Peace Institute which was started by the Soka Gakkai, a buddhist movement for peace, culture, and education. Daisaku Ikeda is the leader of this lay movement and has been responsible for innumerable initiatives to bring peace on this planet. After reading this book, for the first time, I understood Islam. Being an active and practicing Buddhist, I had a lot of knowledge about Buddhism but I had at best foggy and half-baked notions about Islam, many of them gathered through western media reporting. Reading this book made me understand how utterly inaccurate my beliefs about Islam were. I got a deeper look into the life of Mohammed and his struggles, I was exposed to the real aspect Islam which is about peace and happiness for all. This book helped me understand: 1. Before we make judgments about people, we must spend some time going in depth about their circumstances and struggles. 2. EVERYONE wants peace at heart. 3. Religion is not what media says it is. Innumerable people practice religion in a distorted way and that can bring a bad name to the religion. 4. We must dialogue with each other to advance peace. 5. Fundamentally, we are all worthy of the highest respect, whether we are buddhists, muslim, christian, jewsih, hindu, or from any other faith. 6. If we appreciate others, we advance peace. If we criticize others, we obstruct peace.
