This book, which was written by a decendant of James Smith, is a decent starting place if you know nothing about the Pennsylvania frontiersman and leader of the Black Boys. But it is disappointing in that it relies heavily on "Scoouwa", James Smith's own captivity narrative. Thomas Smith brings very little new information to the table. In my opinion you are better served by reading the original, which is surprisingly clear, lively and well written for a mid-eighteenth century book. Despite being out of print "Scoouwa" is very easy to find among used booksellers.
