Product Description
The first in-depth look at the Westons, Duxbury s legendary shipbuilding family Packed with new information and highly illustrated, King Caesar of Duxbury explores the career of Ezra Weston II who inherited from his father the regal nickname of King Caesar. Beginning with the foundations of the shipbuilding empire laid by Ezra Weston I before the American Revolution, the book traces the dramatic expansion of the Weston firm as son Ezra Weston II took the helm. The incredible achievements of the Westons and the obstacles they encountered are related within the broader context of regional maritime history. King Caesar of Duxbury is based on new research from untapped resources including family papers that have generously been made available for this publication, Weston business records in the Society s archives, regional shipbuilding data, as well as material from other museums. The book features nearly 100 images in full color including superb portraits of King Caesar s ships, most of which have never before been published. King Caesar of Duxbury humanizes a figure of local legend, revealing the motives and schemes of Duxbury s most famous shipbuilder and merchant.
