Product Description
Part zany Michigan guidebook and part Who's Who of odd and unsung heroes, this thoroughly revised and updated compendium of the state's quirks and characters will amuse Michigan residents and visitors alike. You'll marvel at the world's largest hairball, pucker up to a ninety-year-old moose, tour the Shipwreck Museum, and race to the finish line in the Outhouse Classic. Along the way you'll meet Detroit's Fast Freddy, the epitome of panache; Marshall's self-proclaimed "Cheese God"; and The Polish Muslims, kings of the "polka 'n' roll."
Back Cover Copy
Your round-trip ticket to the wildest, wackiest, most outrageous people, places, and things the Wolverine State has to offer! Check out an interest-igniting woodstove made of actual wood, a bi-annual picklepalooza; and an old-fashioned chicken coop-turned-gas station. Meet a podium-carrying wisecracking cop; a banana-hanging bat babysitter; and a fun-loving mechanical-museum mogul. Try your luck in some farfetched feather bowling, creep across the state’s most rickety footbridge, and lounge on a lawn made of waves—you’ll be rolling with laughter! Whether you were born-and-raised in Michigan or are a recent transplant, authors Colleen Burcar and Gene Taylor will have you laughing out loud as they introduce you to the neighbors you never knew you had and take you to places you never knew existed—right in your own backyard.
Reader Reviews
This is a fun, fast-paced book highlighting some of the quirky things about Michigan. As a born and bred MICHIGANDER I really enjoyed learning more about this wonderful state I call home. My boyfriend is a CA transplant, and I am winning him over to the greatness of Michigan. The author does a great job keeping things short and simple, including interesting notes and history, and makes things easy to locate with directions and web site addresses.
