About The Author
Lynn Schimidt is the director of the Leadership Institute at Nextel Communications. She has 17 years of experience as a human and organization development professional in the fast-paced high-technology industry. In her current position she is responsible for succession management, identification and development of high-potential candidates, diversity and mentoring programs, and executive development. Schmidt also has had responsibility for performance consulting, management and employee training curricula, new employee integration, distance learning, instructional systems design, competency modeling, and employee satisfaction surveys.
Schmidt has extensive experience in the field of measurement and evaluation. She is certified in ROI evaluation and was president elect for the ROI Network. She currently serves on the ASTD ROI Network Advisory Committee. In 2002 she received the Jack and Patti Phillips ROI Practitioner of the Year Award. Schmidt authored a case study on evaluating soft-skills training for ASTD's In Action series book Measuring Learning and Performance. She has conducted several ROI/impact studies on programs such as change management, time management, performance management, and diversity awareness.
Schmidt has made presentations on measurement and evaluation at several conferences sponsored by the International Quality and Productivity Center, ASTD, and the ROI Network. She teaches both requirements assessment and measurement and evaluation at Georgetown University. She serves as co-director of programs for the Metro D.C. ASTD chapter and was a member of the 2001 and 2002 ASTD program committees for the annual ASTD international conference. She holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration, a master's of business administration, and is pursuing a doctorate in human and organization development. The chapter on the Value of Training Scorecards by Ms Schmidt is a must read. The case studies by those in the field are great examples of how to apply the concepts. This book should be in everyones reference book shelf. Jack Phillips and Lynn Schmidt are a great team in presenting concepts of ROI and value of training scorecards. Thanks to the editors and the contributors for providing this valuable resource. I have many years of experience in training and management development from postions in telecom and computers.
