From Booklist
Gr. 4-6. First published in Australia, this short guidebook presents the basics for ballet dancers in training. Following a brief history of ballet's origins, Silver offers advice on choosing a school and preparing for class (proper clothing, well-fitted shoes, classic hairstyles). She goes on to explain the basic terms, positions, movements, and steps that will form the basis of ballet in class and eventually onstage. Small, precise, full-color pictures illustrate the text. The last few pages offer space for children's notes: "My Ballet Diary," followed by "My Own Special Achievements." Though these last features may spell "bookstore item" to many librarians, others may want to chance the possibility of a write-in, given the overall practicality and charm of this little handbook.
