Grade 2-4?When Rosie's ballet class is canceled for the summer, and she's facing the prospect of two long months without dance, she decides to stage her own performance and make it the best ever. Of course, in typical Rosie fashion, everything goes wrong, and she ends up in competition with a neighborhood girl who's also putting on a show. Finally, after many conflicts, the girls decide to combine performances, and Rosie learns that being perfect isn't always possible or desirable. At times disappointed, but ever optimistic, she is ably supported by a cast of family and friends. The plot is fast paced with many humorous moments and the characters are well developed and believable. A glossary will aid readers unfamiliar with the many ballet terms used in the easy-to-read text. Full-page line drawings show Rosie with all her enthusiasm and energy. Fans of Giff's "Kids of the Polk Street School" series (Dell) will find this book to be a good next step. Although young ballet fans will be the most likely audience, most young readers should empathize with Rosie and her quest for perfection.?Arwen Marshall, New York Public Library

From Booklist
Gr. 2^-4. School's out, and her friends are celebrating, but how can Rosie live without ballet lessons until fall? Never idle for long, the young dancer is soon planning her own ballet performance. The plot thickens when a rival decides to put on
Swan Lake the day before Rosie's show, but the summer brings good times, too. First, cousin Brede, visiting from Ireland and rumored to be perfect, turns out to be perfectly human; then Rosie's rival agrees to join forces and put on a joint dance performance. The story's childlike perspective and gentle humor will appeal to young readers who are beginning to enjoy chapter books. Like the other three volumes in the Ballet Slippers series, this book will include ten black-and-white illustrations.
