"Upland gunners everywhere will delight in this study of the bird, and of the guns and dogs used to hunt it."--"Tap" Tapply
Product Description
An authoritative and affectionate portrait of one of America's great game birds, its history, habits, and habitat¿and the methods used to hunt it.
Reader ReviewsI purchased this book, along with Dennis Walrod's "Grouse Hunter's Guide." This book provides an in depth look at the history of grouse hunting in the US and some basic ideas of how to hunt Ruffed Grouse. Woolner is an excellent writer and had me laughing hysterically with some of his stories. The major drawback of this book lies in the lack of grouse hunting info with regards the Midwest (Otherwise a good picture of Northeastern grouse hunting). Woolner provides a remarkably unbiased view with regards to guns and habitat, and points out common misconceptions about this amazing game bird. Overall, a good read, but if you want information on tactics, you would be better served by Dennis Walrod's book.
