Like the
Little Book of Flyfishing,
The Little Book of Birding is a fine complement to a very small coffee table. While there are few birdwatching tips--in fact, sparse text at all--the color photographs are often memorable (to birders, at least) and the overall tone is as amiable as can be. Inside, you'll find funny-looking screech owls, a pair of bright cardinals in a snowstorm, a catbird taking a bath--not to mention the birdwatchers, bundled up in winter, studying their field guides, straining upward to catch a glimpse of tree-top warblers.
From Booklist
There is very little text in this book--some bird-watching tips and techniques are all that the textual accompaniment amounts to--but the 100 color photographs by the author make this book a treasure. photographs of owls, jays, condors, egrets, and herons are partnered with equally dramatic illustrations of geese, ducks, cranes, hummingbirds, swallows, grackles, loons, pelicans, cardinals, sparrows, swans, doves, and bluebirds. And a special treat the book offers is a selection of photographs of bird-watchers doing their thing--watching birds. Nature lovers will certainly take this visually attractive book to heart.
