Reader ReviewsWhether you're new to birding in southern Africa or a serious twitcher desperate to tick that woodward's barbet on your life list, this book certainly warrants the place it occupies on your bookshelf (and in your fieldbag). Hugh Chittenden has called upon top birders and ornithologists to compile a guide to the best birding spots of the subregion. Each chapter is devoted to either a country or provincial region and covers both well known and less-known birding spots in those regions. The authors provide contact details and directions for each birding spot and the details of special species you may see in the area (and when to see them). A checklist of the birds you would encounter at the location also allows you to keep track of what you've seen at your favorite birding spots. This book is a great reference to plan your six-week birding trip around southern Africa or just to satisfy your weekend birding expeditions from the city. I recommend it for locals and for birding enthusiasts from afar.
