Reader ReviewsIt's hard to find disinterested reviews of boats. The authors seem to find the good points [and almost any boat has some] to write about, leaving you to figure out what the bad points are by exclusion. Any boat is a compromise, and designed to do one sort of job really well. The trick in selecting the right boat for your purposes is accurately listing just what it is that you want the boat to do. This book is predicated on the idea that you want a boat to take several people in comfort and safety for several days or longer through potentially challenging waters -- the coast of British Columbia, for example. If that's the case, this may be your book. It discusses each of the many systems on board and suggests which alternatives are most likely to meet your needs. I learned a lot from it when we were looking at trawlers last year -- and would recommend it without reservation to someone in a similar position.
