Product Description
Performed by Denitza Lavchieva, clarinet Accompaniment: Tempi Concertati Chamber Orchestra Conductor: Nayden Todorov Mozart did not make extensive use of the clarinet until comparatively late in his career, but he wrote exquisitely for the instrument, and the two scores dedicated to his friend, Anton Stadler-the Quintet, KV581 and the Concerto, KV622-are among his most gorgeous works. Both, incidentally, belong to the final year of his life. The Clarinet Concerto is in the conventional three movements, with music that transcends conventionality in its remarkable sense of repose and serenity, and what Bernhard Paumgartner has called 'its incredible warmth of tone, perfect balance and unmatched perfection of style.' The concerto had a awesome resurgence in popularity with the release of the Academy-Award-winning 1985 film Out of Africa, of which the piece formed a major element. This deluxe 2-CD set includes the concerto in its original key with printed parts for both A and B-flat clarinets, and adds a repitched version for B-flat clarinetists, allowing players of that instrument easier execution plus the ability to learn the same fingerings as the composer's intended A clarinet for performance purposes. Includes a high-quality printed music score (featuring both A and B-flat clarinet parts) on ivory paper; a compact disc featuring the complete concerto in digital stereo, followed by the concerto performed again, but minus you, the soloist.
Reader Reviews
Face it. It's difficult to find a quality recording to accompany your solos. This Book and CD set does a wonderful job. The 'score' is, quite simply, the clarinet part, although I at first thought it would be the full orchestra parts. You may change the tempo using a variable-speed CD player(or Windows Media Player), as is suggested in the accompanying documentation. The soloist on the example tracks is quite good, and the orchestra accompaniment is excellent. Make sure you have a CD player you can hear over your playing, however. Overall, this product is a great buy. For contest preparation, where you play with a piano part, however, I would recommend the Contest Solos Series from Music Minus One. The first movement can be found in "Advanced Clarinet Solos, vol. II", the second in "Intermediate Clarinet Solos, vol. III", and the third in "Advanced Clarinet Solos, vol. I".
