The idea that a happy workforce is an effective one isn't new. However, organizational consultant Manz (Business Without Bosses, Wiley, 1993) brings a fresh approach to the concept, showing how the deeper vision of the gospels can teach business leaders to emphasize commitment over a bottom-line agenda by recognizing the value and contribution of every individual. Applying lessons from Jesus' parables to the corporation, Manz illustrates the effectiveness of "mustard-seed power": that truthfulness, humility, compassion, forgiveness, and love are the farthest-reaching approaches a leader can use to inspire others to contribute their best work efforts. Written for a broad audience, this is suitable for both public and corporate libraries.

Melding spirituality and business seamlessly, Manz finds Jesus the best example for commercial success. He suggests that humility, serving others and unconditional love produce prosperous companies and organizations. Almost miraculously, people live up to the high expectations we have of them. As audiobook aficionados know, author readings can be anything from very professional sounding to disappointingly amateurish. This one is definitely closer to the latter. Manz, obviously reading from a script, is often hesitant as well as stilted. But it's still a heartfelt reading, unaccompanied by music or other effects. A.G.H. © AudioFile 2001, Portland, Maine--

Reader Reviews
This review is from: Leadership Wisdom of Jesus: Practical Lessons of Today (Hardcover)
As a 20-year veteran of global sales training, leadership development and communications training, I found this book to be profoundly important. The lessons in leadership and communication that were taught by Christ are just as relevant today as they were in Palestine over 2000 years ago. And they will remain so eternally.
