Reader Reviews
If you have been longing to make a visit to the Holy Land, so that you can see the places associated with Jesus and His ministry, this book is one way you can go, without leaving home. Ken Duncan's photos are glorious and inspirational, sometimes surprising and sometimes just what you would have pictured in your mind's eye from having read scripture. This book also has a lovely selection of passages from familiar Christian authors, including Max Lucado, G. K. Chesterton, E. Stanley Jones and Tony Campolo. Many of the photographs are of panoramic scenes, while many others are close ups of details such as the widow's mite and other coins from the time of Jesus. I was particularly taken by the photo of the 2000+ year old Zacchaeus Tree--commonly believed to be the tree that Zacchaeus climbed in order to see Jesus as he arrived in Jericho. Also very inspiring were the photos of fishermen on the Sea of Galilee, shepherds and sheep in the fields near Bethlehem, the pools of Siloam and Bethesda. Duncan, who is a world-class photographer, also looks with the eyes of faith on these hallowed places, and allows us a sense of their wonder and mystery. It would be hard to find such fine photographic resources anywhere else between the covers of one volume. And no other book that I know of can show you such wonders as "Sunrise Through Flowers on the Mount of Beatitudes." Looking at glorious compositions such as this helps one realize the how achingly beautiful are these places Jesus walked. This book would be a good resource for those who teach the New Testament as well as those who study it, for pastors and Christian Education Directors, for those who are planning a trip to these sacred sites and those who want to remember a past visit there. It is a book to enjoy and a book to give.
