Reader ReviewsThe esteemed Dr. Bangura has written an extraordinary exploration into the linguistic analysis of surah Al-Fatihah, the first chapter of the Holy Qur'an considered so fundamental that it is recited by Muslims nearly twenty times each day as a foundation of daily prayer. This small volume speaks to the linguistic intricacies of these seven verses in such a way that anyone interested in the topic would surely benefit. In his examination of the text, the author first explains the linguistic applications of his exploration, citing a number of scholars of the discipline. He then goes onto to apply these structural explanations to the text itself. Bear in mind Dr. Bangura holds several Ph.Ds, including one in linguistics. That's not to say that he speaks above the casual reader of linguistic theory, however, those not particularly interested in the study of language per se may be more interested in the works of Al Ghazali, or Muhammad Asad. Although Dr. Bangura's study provides some impressive interpretive insight into Al-Fatihah, his primary focus is the linguistic structure of the verses themselves and how they relate to the message and the receiver of that message. Again, those interested in the linguistic science of the surah will likely be very impressed with what they learn.
