Reader ReviewsI worked in The Bronx for 15 years directing the Borough's office of a large social service agency. And I spent some time at Intervale. Jack captures the life, spirit, and determination of the folks at Intervale. Mr. Sachs was not one of a kink, but one of the best kind. I treasure the moments we spent together, and the bus rides to an annual Seder that we went to in Westchester County. He could have left, for an easier life at any time, but chose to remain. A gentle hero. There is a difference between a Rabbi and a rebbe; the one being ordained and learned. Mr. Sachs was a rebbe, learned and wise. A life to learn from. This is a book to love. I am glad that Kugelmass added a bit to it. I treasure both editions and every so often look at the pictures and also the VHS to remind myself of the vitality and love of life, and of other folks.
