Product Description
For centuries, the Bible has served as a moral compass and a source of Gods word. Packed with stories of mystery, intrigue, and inspiration, the Bible is also valued as sacred literature. Unfortunately, disjointed narratives, confusing language, and an innumerable cast of characters can make reading the Bible a challenge for many people.
The Everything® Bible Book is a lucid and richly detailed guide to the history, literature, stories, parables, and personalities of both the Old and New Testaments. From Genesis to Revelations, Abraham to Paul, this book covers the various theories on the origins of the Bible, compares the different editions, and describes in detail the Bibles culture and times.
This highly accessible book also includes information on:
·All the books of the Bible and their content
·The various translations and versions
·Interpretations of the Bible through the ages
·Comparisons of the gospels
·A book-by-book reading plan
Filled with easy-to-follow information and fascinating historical perspective, The Everything® Bible Book is the perfect resource for anyone who wants to unravel and understand the complex mysteries of the Good Book but is intimidated by the prospect.
About The Author
Rev. John Trigilio Jr., Ph.D., Th.D., (Marysville, PA) serves as Pastor of Our lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Marysville, PA, and of Saint Bernadette Catholic Church in Duncannon, PA. He is the president of the Confraterntiy of Catholic Clergy and executive editor of its quarterly journal, Sapientia magazine. He also acts as cohost for Web of Faith and Council of Faith, two weekly television series on Eternal World Television Network, a Catholic cable channel.
Rev. Kenneth Brighenti, Ph.D., (Raritan, NJ) is pastor of Saint Ann Catholic Church in Raritan, NJ, and managing editor of Sapientia magazine. He is also the cohost with Father Trigilio for Web of Faith and Council of Faith TV shows.
Reader ReviewsFollowing the success of their terrific "Catholicism for Dummies" last year, this new volume by Fathers Trigilio and Brighenti explains the history, development, and wisdom of the written Word of God. Written for all Christians, "The Everything Bible Book" adopts a user-friendly format similar to that of the authors' "Dummies" book, providing a sweeping overview of all seventy three books of the Bible. Yet despite its sweep and scope, the content isn't "dumbed-down" and the reader never feels short-changed. Key concepts like the senses of Scripture, the nature of revelation and the importance of salvation history provide a proper context for understanding Scripture. The book leaves readers hoping the authors will continue their collaboration and wondering which topic they will tackle next. (My suggestion is a work of apologetics under the working title "Does Vatican II *really* teach that?", but we'll have to wait and see.)
