Book Description
From the 25-year-old hipster to her 85-year-old grandmother, more than a third of the women in the United States knit. For the yarn-obsessed, Mary Beth Temple offers a glossary of knitting jargon and terminology in The Secret Language of Knitters with entries like:
Design Elements
noun: Mistakes. As in "The fact that one sleeve is five inches longer than the other is not a mistake, it is a design element."
Stress Knitting
noun: When the going gets tough, the tough get knitting.
With a universal affinity for cashmere and an absolute abhorrence of moths, veteran and beginning knitters alike will be certain not to cast off this humorous lexicon compendium.
About The Author
Mary Beth Temple has been knitting since she was seven years old. From her first project -- a bright gold scarf that barely wrapped around her neck -- she has been hooked. She is the author of five books and is a freelance writer for
Yarn Market News. She knits in Tenafly, N.J.
Reader Reviews
LOVE this book. I had a blast finding out how good my knitting vocabulary already is and learned a bunch of new terms and tricks. Very enjoyable and well written read. I actually bought 2 copies since it's the perfect gift for a knitting buddy too. Love the "Curse of the Boyfriend Sweater!" Always wondered what that meant. Anyone who knits (or crochets for that matter) will relate to this book.
