About The Author
Vaughn M. Bryant, Jr. joined the newly created Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Texas A&M University in 1971 as their first anthropologist. In the fall of 1971, Dr. Bryant began his tenure at Texas A&M University and taught the first anthropology course to 44 students. In 1975, Dr. Bryant was appointed Head of the new Anthropology Program, and in 1980 when Anthropology was made a separate department he was appointed as its first Head, a position he still holds. In 1974 Dr. Bryant received the Texas A&M Association of Former Students Distinguished Achievement Award in Teaching. In 1990 he received the Texas A&M Association of Former Students Distinguished Achievement Award in Administration. Dr. Bryant is internationally famous for his research in pollen analysis, prehistoric diets, and paleoethnobotany. More recently he has pursued research in forensic palynology.
