Scuba divers, snorkelers, aquarium own ers, and armchair travelers will delight in this gorgeously illustrated book on coral reefs. great diagrams and exceptional photographs complement the clear text describing the formation of coral reefs. Holliday also provides fascinating, de tailed examinations of both familiar and exotic reef areas, capturing the special na ture of diving in each. Invertebrates, the reef animals frequently overshadowed by the flashier fish, are especially well docu mented; in side essays, Holliday even dis cusses the suitability of these animals for home aquariums. The variety of perspec tives contributes to this book's written and visual vitality. Recommended.

Reader ReviewsThis is one beautiful book. It's a shame it's out of print. The author gives an enormous amount of information on various coral reefs throughout the world, and extensive information on the animals that inhabit them, including some references to reef aquaria. However, the book was published in 1989 so any information on aquariums is somewhat dated. This book is not about marine aquariums, but any marine aquarist can learn a lot about reef inhabitants from reading this book. Highly recommend!
