Stanford University in 1968. He has published many technical articles and textbooks in the areas of statistics and applied probability. Among his texts are A First Course in Probability, Introduction to Probability Models, Stochastic Processes, and Introductory Statistics. Professor Ross is the founding and continuing editor of the journal
Probability in the Engineering and Informational Sciences. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, and a recipient of the Humboldt US Senior Scientist Award.
Reader ReviewsI've used this book for a graduate course in Dynamic Programming. Having used many of Mr. Ross's books (undergraduate and graduate), I found this one lacks the detail and lucidity (particularly the end of chapter problems...I believe in "learning by doing"... i.e. solve lots of problems!) that I have come to know of his books (e.g. A First Course in Probability and Introduction to Probability Models). The bright spot of the book is its examples, which are interesting and fairly detailed.
